Hampden Youth Basketball Program
League Descriptions-
K-Ball (Co-ed)
Instructional Basketball offered to “Kindergarten Kids”, usually starting early in December, and runs through to first weekend in March. Our program is presently affiliated with the Springfield Armor, in which they sponsor a “Hampden Night” for all players and families. All sessions are designed to introduce children to the fundamentals of Basketball. One Session per week, are Saturday mornings, in the Green Meadows Elementary School Gymnasium.
1st & 2nd grade
League/Divisions developed based on registrations. Typically players are divided by grade and we offer a boys and girls division. This is an Instructional League, and sessions are focused on the fundamentals of basketball. Sessions starts early in December and run through to March. Players and families are invited to “Hampden Night”, with Springfield Armor and have the opportunity to play on court during halftime. One Session per week, are Saturday mornings, in the Green Meadows Elementary School Gymnasium. The season culminates in our annual March Madness jamboree at TWB Gym.
Grades 3-8
The Hampden Basketball Program offers several levels of Basketball to children Grades 3-8, within various Leagues. The Program has “tryouts’ or Evaluations annually to assist in the placement of players to teams. After evaluation, and based on rating (and number of registered) players are placed on Upper, Middle or Lower Tier teams. . Upper Tier teams may play in additional tournaments during; Pre-season and Holiday & Winter School Breaks, and usually play additional 8-10 games per season. Tryouts are NOT mandatory, if you choose not to go to evaluations you will automatically be placed in lower division team based on grade/age. If you are unable to attend “tryouts” you must notify Parks and Recreation Board or Basketball Coordinator. All teams typically practice twice a week during season.
3-4 Grade
Boy and Girls teams; this age group usually plays in the CYO League, and is placed in divisions within that league through our Program’s Coordinator, or League Evaluations. Most of these games are played at TWB, however away games include; Holyoke, Chicopee, Springfield and surrounding cities and towns.
5-6 Grade
Boys and Girls Teams; this age group plays in the Suburban (Upper), CYO (Middle), and Tri town (Lower ) Leagues , and is placed in divisions within that league through our Program’s Coordinator. Home games are played at TWB, other games will be played in surrounding Cities and towns.
7-8 Grade
Boys and Girls Teams: this age group usually plays in Suburban (Upper), and Tri-town ( Lower) Leagues and is placed in divisions within that league through our Program’s Coordinator. Home games are played at TWB, other games will be played in surrounding Cities and towns.
